So that happened ...

A memory from Melbourne lockdown surfaced this morning ...

I might be Australian, but I am a Melbourne girl.
This is my city, she shaped me and we have grown up together.
My personal compass has pointed me far from home often.
My cardinal points are here, they do not change.
Melbourne sleeps now, her thousand eyes are closed.
Soon, soon, not soon enough, the shops and galleries, arcades and bookshops, cafes, theatres and market stalls will come back to life.
And so will our sleeping city.
She will sparkle again, and like any beautiful woman preen a little as she emerges from this long sad sleep.
I’m planning our first day together. It’s good to dream.
Coffee and a bratwurst at the Queen Vic market, of course. A walk along the city’s streets to hear, see and feel it all alive again.
Bookshops of course.
More coffee, well yes ... and something sweet?
Lunch is a dizzy choice but sushi is looking good from here, as long as it comes on a train.
After?
Cleopatra beckons, she is holding that pearl, and Leonard French will colour the afternoon so richly.
A walk across the Princess Bridge at dusk is to step into another time.
So many choices, so many experiences, so many memories.
We are waiting for each other.
